The 12 Apps of Christmas: 3. BPrint

The season of advent is upon us, shops are covered in tinsel, and Christmas songs are playing on the radio. That means it’s time for The 12 Apps of Christmas! During December the IT Services team and other contributors will be sharing our favourite digital learning apps and tools.

A festive series of new blog posts will be published and tagged as the 12 Apps of Christmas. Posts will include details about the app and ways it could be used effectively in a professional/teaching/learning context. We hope this will give you the opportunity to try out a new tool and learn more about the kind of things we’re involved in.

On the third day of Christmas IT gave to me…

BPrint

BPrint is our large format printing service for high quality photographic and graphic art images. You can also use this service for printing signs, posters, banners – almost anything! We offer a range of papers and sizes coupled with very quick turnaround times and all of the printing is done in-house on Canon’s flagship large format printer: the imagePROGRAF PRO-4000. Here’s how it works…

Upload your image

To upload your images, begin by accessing the BPrint ordering system at it.barton.ac.uk/bprint or via my.barton. Click on the Start by uploading your images button to add some images to your album. You can upload multiple images at once, but they can only be in the JPEG file format. There is a size limit of 100 MB on uploaded files and we recommend saving the JPEG as a Baseline (Standard) image and not a Progressive image.

Choose your paper

For consistency and quality, we only use genuine Canon and HP papers for all of our prints. Our three standard paper types are…

Canon Instant Dry Photo Gloss – a 190 gsm coated paper with a glossy finish, suitable for photographic images.

Canon Instant Dry Photo Satin – a 190 gsm coated paper with a silky finish, suitable for photographic images.

HP Artist Matte Canvas – a 380 gsm canvas material suitable for framing.

We also stock some more specialist paper which we are hoping to make available on the system soon. To find out more about this, visit the BPrint FAQ.

Choose your size

We offer 17 preset sizes which span the most popular industry-standard print sizes. The complete list of sizes can be found here. If necessary, we will proportionally scale your image (i.e. without stretching or compressing) to fit your chosen print size. If you require a size that isn’t listed, such as a banner, please send a message to bprint@barton.ac.uk with your requirements.

Pay and collect

The BPrint system deducts the cost of your prints from your college print credit, so you need to make sure that you have enough print credit available before placing an order. The prices for all of the available paper types and sizes can be found here.

We will process your order as fast as possible, which normally means your print is ready in a day or two. If you are a student printing for an Art subject, the Art department technicians will collect and sort your prints for you. If you are printing for a subject other than Art, or printing for personal use, please collect your order from the IT Services office near the Gateway.

Santa says…

Why not print some photographs and create your own photo book as a Christmas gift? Alternatively, how about ordering a canvas print to mount on your own frame?
