Homeschooling Help

We take security very seriously at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, our remit is to ensure that young learners are provided with a device that is fit for purpose, and safe to use, too. We’re reaching out to all parents who’ve had to become their own IT departments during this lockdown with some advice and good practices that may help with some tech issues.

Receiving a donated computer or device from a friend, relative or donation service is a wonderful thing, but there can be risks when simply picking up a device or computer and using it without thinking.

Passwords and other information may get cached or saved, you may inadvertently be exposed to somebody else’s sensitive information, and sometimes, technical problems can be inherited from a previous user or owner.

These articles are here to help you make a clean, sanitised environment for your child to use as a platform to learn on, for the most common devices and computers.

Important: If you’ve been lucky enough to have been allocated a Chromebook, Laptop, Desktop or Tablet from your child’s school then it will already have been set up for use; you won’t need to follow our steps to reset this device.

If you’ve received a device from a friend, relative, or donation service, you may want to think about reading over these instructions briefly.
