Following the iOS 11 upgrade, Apple has set their default photo file to HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) for iPhones and iPads instead of the universally used JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group). HEIC supports 16-bit colour capture instead of the standard 8-bit while it compresses the image enabling it to retain the high quality without using as much space on your device. Unfortunately, Adobe Photoshop does not support HEIC files so in this guide, it will help you convert your HEIC images to JPEGs on your iPhone device without using a third party converter.
Step 1.
Open Settings app on your iPhone/iPad
Step 2.
Tap on Camera
Step 3.
Whilst on the Camera Settings, tap Formats
Step 4.
In formats, you will see two options, tap Most Compatible. This will allow any further images that you take to be converted to JPEGs. To change back to HEIC, you will need to tap High efficiency.
If you would like to keep your images as HEIC files but need them to be converted into JPEGS to use, please read the following:
Step 1.
Open Settings app on your iPhone/iPad
Step 2.
Tap on Photos
Step 3.
Scroll down to TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC, then you will need to tap on to Automatic.
This will automatically transfer all photos and videos to a compatible format, allowing you to use Photoshop / Bridge.
