VPN Access

This article describes how to set up the Global Connect VPN to remotely access college resources that are no available through a web browser.

Windows

To access the VPN on Windows:

  1. Go to vpn.barton.ac.uk and login using your college Google account.
  2. Download the Global Protect VPN client for your version of Windows. This will normally be the 64bit version.
  3. Run the MSI installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Enter vpn.barton.ac.uk as the portal address when prompted.
  5. Press Connect.
  6. At this point you will be prompted to sign-in with your college Google account if you are not already signed in.
  7. You will then receive a pop up message informing you whether your device has successfully connected.
  8. You can now use Remote Desktop to connect to your computer and access systems on the college network.

When connecting using the VPN you will need to ensure your firewall is enabled, virus checker is up-to-date, and patch management (Windows update) is enabled. If you cannot connect it is likely one or all of these conditions haven’t been met.

Chromebook

To access the VPN on Chromebooks:

  1. Open the Google Play Store. This is normally located on the shelf and can also be found in the app launcher.
  2. Find Global Protect and click on Install.
  3. Open Global Protect once the install has completed.
  4. Enter vpn.barton.ac.uk as the portal address.
  5. Press Connect.
  6. At this point you will be prompted to sign-in with your college Google account if you are not already signed in.
  7. You will then receive a pop up message informing you whether your device has successfully connected.
  8. You can now use Remote Desktop, which is also available from the Play Store, to connect to your computer and access systems on the college network.
