Science Journal uses the sensors in your mobile device to measure light, sound and motion then log your notes, observations and photos in the app.

Science Journal is the free digital science notebook brought to you by Google. It transforms your device into a pocket-size science tool that encourages students to explore their world. As they conduct eye-opening experiments, they’ll record observations and make new, exciting discoveries.

The great thing with the Science Journal app is that it works on Android and iOS devices so 99% of students can use it to record their observations and make exciting discoveries. Whether it’s measuring acceleration whilst on a swing or measuring the sound intensity of the nearby roads, there is a whole host of features in this app.

With the Science Journal app, you can:

  • Measure light, sound, acceleration, air pressure and more using your phone’s built-in sensors.
  • Take notes and photos to document your science experiments. More note types coming soon!
  • Connect to external sensors using selected Bluetooth-enabled Arduino and Vernier devices.
  • Access your experiments across your devices using Google Drive.
  • Export recorded sensor data as CSV files.
  • Create automated triggers for recording data and taking notes.
  • Use sonification to hear the movement of your graphs.

On the Science Journal website, you can find hundreds of videos and experiments already created for certain topics. Take a look here and have a look at the GIF below to see an example of the app in action.
