Printing from Your Own Device

If you bring your own device into college to work from, then it’s handy to know that you can still use the PrinterPool machines to print your work. Printing from your own device is available on any of the following operating systems

  • Chrome OS – e.g. your own Chromebook
  • Android – e.g. your own smartphone or tablet
  • Apple iOS – e.g. your own iPhone or iPad
  • Windows – e.g. your own Windows laptop
  • Apple macOS – e.g your own MacBook

Please note that if you’re using a college-owned device, such as Windows or Mac workstation or a departmental Chromebook, then printing is already enabled and ready to use. You don’t need to follow these instructions.

To enable printing on devices not owned by the college, we use a system called PaperCut Mobility Print. Setting it up on your own device is simple and noninvasive. In most cases, all you need to do is download the Mobility Print app and sign in with your college account.

Chrome OS

This only applies to personal Chrome OS devices, such as your own Chromebook. Departmental and teacher Chromebooks are already set up for printing.

Note: If you were already set up to print from your own Chrome OS device prior to 1 June 2024, then you will need to install the new Mobility Print extension as described below in order to continue to print.

  1. Make sure your device is connected to the college WiFi network
  2. Install the Mobility Print Chrome extension
  3. Print the document, page or item as you normally would
  4. In the print preview window, open the Destination dropdown box, and press See more… to view the full list of available printers. Choose one of the PrinterPool printers as identified by the green PaperCut icon.
  5. When prompted, sign in with your college username and password
  6. Head to one of the college PrinterPool machines and release your print
