Printing on Acetate and Transparencies

Before you begin

Please be aware that

  • You can only use transparencies that you have purchased from the College Shop or have been provided with by an Art department technician. These transparencies have been specifically designed to work with our machines. Please do not use your own transparencies for printing.
  • You can only print on transparencies from a Windows PC workstation. Printing on transparencies from other devices, such as Chromebooks, is not currently possible.
  • Only A4 transparencies can be printed on in college. Printing on A3 transparencies is not supported by the machines.

To avoid damage to the PrinterPool machines, you must follow this guidance. If you are unsure about any of the following, please visit the IT office or ask an Art department technician for assistance.

Printing on transparencies

  1. Buy your transparencies from the College Shop. Do not use your own transparencies. If the incorrect type of transparencies are used then the transparencies will almost always get stuck in the inside machine, often causing considerable damage.
  2. Print your document from a Windows PC workstation. In the print preferences, change the Paper Type to Transparency and the Input Tray to Bypass Tray.
  3. Open the Bypass Tray on the printer and load a single transparency onto the tray.
  4. Adjust the tray guides so that they are touching the edges of the sheet. Leaving the guides pushed to the outside edges of the tray will cause a misfeed as the machine uses these to detect the paper size.
  5. Now log in and release your print as normal. Load additional sheets in the Bypass Tray one at a time as needed.

Copying on transparencies

  1. Buy your transparencies from the College Shop. Do not use your own transparencies. If the incorrect type of transparencies are used then the transparencies will almost always get stuck in the inside machine, often causing considerable damage.
  2. At the printer, log in and open either the Copy or Copier (Classic) application.
  3. If you are using the Copy app, tap Paper Select and then Bypass Tray.
If you are using the Copier (Classic) app, then tap the Bypass icon in the row of tray icons.
  4. Open the Bypass Tray on the printer and load a single transparency onto the tray.
  5. Adjust the tray guides so that they are touching the edges of the sheet. Leaving the guides pushed to the outside edges of the tray will cause a misfeed as the machine uses these to detect the paper size.
  6. Copy your document as normal. Load additional sheets in the Bypass Tray one at a time as needed.
